As the media is abuzz with news that Mahesh Babu will star in a movie directed by Mani Ratnam, MusicIndiaOffline brings more news for you. Tamil Actor Vikram will also star in the film, which will be produced by Sun Pictures, who recently produced the Rs.150 crore film Robo!
The movie is said to be based on the Tamil Novel Ponniyin Selvan, a fictional novel based on the 10th century history of Tamil Nadu. Mahesh Babu is rumored to play the role of the hero, Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan. The character which Mahesh is set to play is an attractive and an adventurous man, who has the responsibility of making the Prince, Arulmozhivarman, as the prince’s father - the Emperor falls ill! Vikram, if everything goes well, will play the role of Arulmozhi Varman (Raja Raja Chola)! It is heard that Tamil writer Jeya Mohan had been approached to write the screenplay. Jeya Mohan is a literary critic, has written movies like Naan Kadavul (Nene Devunni) and also has few mythological novels to his name! Obviously this movie will be made as a bi-lingual in Tamil and Telugu.
The movie, obviously has generated more interest right from the start becasue of its subject matter, which probably needs more budget than a film like Robo! If this movie happens, this will probably be the first film in India that deals with elaborately with the history of South India!
In the mean time, few have aired their doubts if Mani Ratnam can manage a film like this after his debacle called Raavanan (Villain in Telugu). There are others that Mani Ratnam should be the choice that he is probably amongst the few directors who has intellectual, philosophical capability to do sucha film. How this will come out, only time should tell.
